Mariana –
It will be interesting to hear what the Paradas have to say
if you succeed in contacting them. Regarding confusing the names Robinson and
Rogerson, I would imagine those chronicling this information were probably
Spanish speakers, and they may have been unfamiliar with anglo names, so the
possibility of mixing them up would not be surprising.
Not sure when the archival material will all be together,
but likely not for some time. Moreover, it then would need to be examined so we
are probably looking at a year or more before anything (if it exists) surfaces
regarding Henry’s relationship to Maria Parada.

Thank you for your prompt reply and for considering my inquiries. If
there is something that we do have in common then, is this interest in the past
and the history of our families.
I
agree with you entirely about the fact that, if there is any connection between
our families and we are talking about the same Henry Price, then, Maria Parada
should have died before 1866, and both Juan and Eduardo should have been born
before that time. I know that Eduardo was born in 1865, but I have no
information as regards Juan’s birth date. I am now trying to contact the Parada
family to see if they have any useful information. What I find very curious is
this story about my great great- grandfather marrying a woman called “Robinson”
and Henry Ferrier Price marrying Miss Rogerson, it makes me wonder if there is
any possibility that along the years the surname was confused. Still, we
obviously need much more information to compare both stories. I know there are
references to our Henry Price in books written about the history of Patagonia,
Neuquén in particular, because he was one of the two most prominent landowners
and estancieros in the area. I will try
to find these references as well.
As you
say, maybe some of the archival material you are now collecting may help to
clarify whether Henry’s relationship with Maria Parada was possible and indeed
occurred. I hope some new information can throw some light into this. I will
try to find new details and will keep
you informed of any new findings.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Mariana

Mariana –
Thank you for your inquiry. Sorry your messages
did not get through to me; result of very powerful spam filters to knock out a
deluge which was overwhelming me. Unfortunately that sometimes means legitimate
messages get thrown out too, especially those from addresses which are not
among my normal correspondents.
By now perhaps you’ve had a chance to look at
our family tree (the link to which my nephew Jeremy gave you in his response).
In it, there is no reference to Henry Ferrier Price (1833 – 1898) having
married Maria Parada. He did go to Chile from Quebec, Canada on or about 1863.
There he met and married Florence Rogerson in 1866. They settled on an estancia
in Talca, Chile, and had seven children, the first of whom was born in 1867. He
returned to Canada with his family on or about 1882.
It is within the realm of possibility that he
had a previous marriage in Chile, but I am not aware of any record. If it in
fact did happen, obviously Maria Parada would have had to have died by 1866,
and Eduardo and Juan born before then. Perhaps you can clarify whether in fact
this chronology could have been possible. If so, it would be fascinating to
contemplate the possibility of another branch of the family.
I should tell you that we are in the process of
creating a comprehensive family history, from the time Henry’s father, William,
first arrived at Quebec in 1810, up to modern times. There is a great deal of
archival material scattered about, which is being brought together under one
roof. One would hope that, if Henry’s marriage to Maria Parada was possible,
and did happen, there would be some reference in there somewhere.
Look forward to hearing from you. We are
particularly interested in knowing whether the chronology outlined above would
have been possible.

Hello,
My name is Mariana Rosa Price and I’m from Neuquén, Patagonia, Argentina.
I’ve always been interested in finding information about my ancestors but’s
only now that I find the time to begin this search. I ‘ve come across your
webpage and wonder if you could possibly have any information about my
great-great grandfather Henry Price and if we might be somehow related. I
tried writing to the webmaster and the editor of the Price family web page,
but all my mails get rejected, that is why I decided to write to you in the
hope that you might help me in my search.
From what I’ve heard from my mother and grandfather; my great-great
grandfather Henry Price came from Canada (or stopped in Canada coming from
Wales) and moved to Chile, where he married Maria Parada. My great
grandfather, Eduardo Price (1865) and his brother, Juan, were born in Chile.
The family owned farms both in Chile and Argentina and lived in both
countries alternatively. When his wife Maria Parada died., Henry remarried
(apparently a woman named Robinson) and left Chile to go either back to
Canada, or to the Unites States, no-one seems to know accurately. Eduardo
Price married Beatriz Campos in 1890 and my grandfather, Marciano Price was
born in 1916. This branch of the family finally settled in Argentina, in
Neuquén, where my mother Alicia Price, was born in 1950.
I would be very grateful if you could share with me any kind
information that might be useful in my search. I am at present trying to
contact the branch of the family that remained in Chile.
Thank you for you help,
Mariana |
