CONNECTIONS TO OTHER FAMILIES

This page is dedicated to reporting on relationships to other families with whom our family has had connections through marriage, business, or other relevant associations.

The following message (in part) was received from Mark Thorburn, who, as indicated, is researching family connections to Canadian Prime Ministers. The message in its entirety was forwarded to Evan Price for response as he is in possession of the most comprehensive compilation of our Family's history as put together by his father, Tony. Any Family members who believe they can contribute are asked to contact Evan directly at eprice@saint-antoine.com .

I am currently a compilation of facts and statistics about Canada’s Prime Ministers.  In each chapter, I wish to include short biographical entries for each of the PMs’ siblings, children, and notable relatives.

As you may know, Henrietta (nee Bethune) Price, the wife of Edward George Price (1842 - 1921), was a niece of Prime Minister John Abbott.  As a result of this connection, I would like to include in the Abbott chapter brief mention of the key members of the Price family (i.e., William Price, Evan John Price, David Edward Price, William Evan Price, Sir William Price, Sir Keith William Price).

The following message was received from Eileen James inquiring about connections between the Price and Pentland families.

Thank you for your very informative website.  We are researching the Pentland family of Quebec and Ontario and believe that there are links to the Price family.

William P. Pentland was born (1780 c) and married in Scotland, moved to Dublin, Ireland approximately 1813, and then to Canada (Quebec City) approximately 1817.  He married Jane Marie Brunton.  Family legend indicates that he landed in his own ship with a string of racehorses.  He was accompanied by two sons who had been born in Dublin: William George and Charles.  Several other children, including Richard Connery Pentland, were born in Quebec.

Charles Pentland (1814-1855c) appears to have been a business associate of William Price.  In 1846, Charles married Catherine-Zoe Taschereau. About 1850, Charles built a sawmill near Grande Bergeronnes, Quebec which was subsequently associated with William Price.  His son, Charles Andrew Pentland (1848-1925) was President of the Bar in Quebec and was employed at the firms of Andrews & Sons as well as Caron, Pentland, Stuart, and Brodie.

Charles Andrew Pentland provided legal representation for Price Brothers and Company, Ltd.

William George Pentland (1816-1893) settled in Cobourg, Ontario and was an associate of Sir John A. MacDonald.  William married Marguerite Lavalee and had several children.  One of his sons was named, Richard Price Pentland (1855-1936).  Another son, Thomas Henry Pentland (1852-1912) had a son named, Stanley Price Pentland (1875-1908).

Richard Connery Pentland (1828-?) is recorded as Postmaster for Price Brothers’ at St. Ferdinand, Megantic, Quebec in 1869 and was active in politics.

The Pentland family is linked by marriage to the Baldwin and Molson families.

We would greatly appreciate any information you may have regarding the relationship between the Pentland and Price families and would be happy to share further details regarding the Pentland family.

Thank you.

Any information which would further clarify the relationship between the two families should be sent directly to editor@pricefamily.ca.
